Video and Audio Accessibility

Captions are crucial for video accessibility, and transcripts are required for audio-only files. In some cases, video might also require audio description. Refer to the tutorials linked below on how to create or enable captions in the following programs:

If you are teaching in the Real Time Online, combined online, or Sufflex modalities and are using Microsoft Teams, make sure to show students how they can access live captions.

Audio Description

Audio description is a voiceover track that describes the visual action taking place in a video. For example, audio description would describe a video of a magician performing a trick so that people who cannot see the video would be able to understand it.

Audio description can be added to videos uploaded to Yuja: How to add audio description with Yuja.

For YouTube videos, users can use upload or link videos to YouDescribe to create audio descriptions for their own and others’ videos. For more information about YouDescribe, please see YouDescribe Audio Description (AD) Tool Step By Step Instructions.
