A New F-1 Student is someone applying for admission to Suffolk County Community College
from abroad. The prospective student will enter the United States (U.S.) with an F-1
Student Visa obtained at a U.S. embassy or consulate. Applicants must meet very specific
requirements in order to qualify for an F-1 Student Visa.
These requirements are:
Acceptance to a certified school:
The applicant intents to enter the United States solely for the purpose of pursuing
a full course of study;
Present intent to leave the United States at conclusion of approved studies and/or
related activities;
Demonstrates possession of sufficient funds to meet financial needs for the duration
of their studies;
Verifies preparation for the course of study that he or she is applying for.
Applicants can apply for an F-1 student visa as early as 120 days before the start
date, to allow for visa processing and security clearance delays.
